Openers, cleaners, etc.; feeding openers &c.-The under-grid of a willow is made in segments jointed or pivoted together each segment being provided with separate adjusting means operated from outside the machine and with fixing means for securing the segments when adjusted. The under-grid is preferably in two segments a, b, Figs. 1 and 3, the segment a being pivoted to the cross rail a<2> and the two segments being jointed by cranked brackets b<2> which hook on to a cross-bar a<12>. The segment a is adjusted by means of two cranks a<5> carried by a crossspindle a<4> engaging the side members . a', the spindle a<4> being turned by a lever arm a<9> fixed in any set position by a bolt a<10> in a slotted bracket a<11>. The segment b is adjusted by a lever arm b<11> on a cross-spindle b' movable over a bracket b<12>, the spindle b<7> carrying two cranks b<9> having bowls b'‹ which co-operate with faced projections b<5>, b<6> on the link b'. When the segment is fully retracted the projection b<5> engages the spindle b<7>, Fig. 3. When the segment is set closest to the beater the projection b<6> engages the spindle b<7>, Fig. 1. The feed-door arrangements are modified as follows. The quadrant c<1> and shaft c are oscillated from a timing motion, the shaft c carrying two sickle arms c<2>, Fig. 4, on the upper arms of which is secured a metal plate c<3> while a plate c<5> is pivoted at c'. A sheet metal plate c<6>, which rests on the ends of the lower limbs of the arms c<2>, is pivoted at c<7> to the under-grid b. The "working " and " feeding " positions are respectively shown in Fig. 4 in broken and dotted lines. |
