A surgical instrument (1), comprising a surgical end effector (60) having at least one actuation assembly to effect a surgical procedure when actuated; an electric motor (120) operationally connected to said end effector (60) to operate said at least one actuation assembly; and a power supply (600) electrically connected to said motor (120) and selectively powering said motor (120) to actuate said at least one actuation assembly, said power supply (600) having at least one battery cell with a critical current rate; and when activated to power said motor (120) and actuate said at least one actuation assembly, operating said at least one battery cell at a super-critical current rate.
