[Class 55 (ii)] A packing for promiscuous charging of gas washers, absorption towers, &c, comprises tubular bodies of metal, glass, earthenware, plastics, carbon, &c. with oval or like open ends'which are inclined to the longitudinal axis 25 at an angle so related to the axial length that at least one perpendicular to the axis intersects both end surfaces. The elements when dumped tend to interlock and pass into or through the passages of adjacent elements. They may be sliced from a long tube by a series of oblique cuts.
