The method involves hardening liquid droplets applied on a surface (10) in a digitally controlled manner. The surface of the geometric dimension of the cover layer is equal to the surface of the geometric dimension of the functional layer with allotment of the surface of an edge contour expansion (20). An independent claim is also included for a device for applying overlapping layer areas on a surface by an application process.
