[Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A battery electrode 10 consisting of a zinc strip wound into a roll with an intervening strip of absorbent paper is amalgamated by placing it in a vessel 14 containing an alkaline solution such as a solution of potassium hydroxide and placing small quantities of mercury 13 on the upper surface of the roll. The vessel 14 is covered and placed in an oven at about 60‹ C. for some hours. The roll is then removed and subjected to moderate vacuum to remove excess liquid.
