<p>Medicament is transferred into the syringe chamber 116 of an autoinjector 110 through an adapter 118. A handle 124 at the proximal end of the adapter incorporates a port (126, figure 1) to receive a fluid container such as a vial 132. Its distal end may have a screw thread to engage with a stopper 112 in the syringe chamber. inside the shaft of the adapter is a double ended, hollow needle. When a vial is inserted into the port, the proximal end of the needle pierces the septum of the vial (figure 2) and its distal end subsequently pierces the resealable stopper (figure 3) to connect the vial and the syringe chamber. The adapter and stopper are retracted (figure 4), drawing fluid from the vial into the chamber. When all the fluid has transferred, the adapter is disconnected from the stopper (figure 5) and the injector is ready for use.</p> |
