High purity aluminium material wire for strong magnetic field operation

A wire comprises aluminium material having a purity of 99.999% by mass, or more. The aluminium may have a purity of 99.99998% by mass, or more. The material may include 1 ppm, or less, which forms an Al3Fe compound. The wire is easy to handle and provides good conductivity characteristics whilst operating at cryogenic temperatures with a magnetic field with a flux density of 1 T or more. Various material processes suitable for making the wire are described.
