PURPOSE: A front side monitoring system is provided to analyzes image information generated by a camera to extract only predetermined horizontal and vertical images for the shape of a subject and determine the shape and progressing direction of the subject, thereby increasing image processing speed. CONSTITUTION: An image analyzing unit(20) analyzes image information for a frontal subject. An area determining unit(30) extracts the cross point between vertical information and horizontal information of the image information. The area determining unit determines an effective area by connecting to the cross point. A direction detecting unit(40) searches a horizontal extension area of the effective area. The direction detecting unit determines a progressing direction of the subject. When the progressing direction crosses the progressing direction of a vehicle, an alarm unit(50) generates an alarm.
