PURPOSE: A Viterbi decoding method and apparatus using an error determination block are provided to control an error correction block and a complex 3-step calculation process based on presence of data errors which are inputted in each state. CONSTITUTION: A Viterbi decoding method comprises the following steps; Presence of input data errors is determined based on an identified data input state according to a constraint length. ACS(Add Compare Select) calculation and TB(Trace Back) calculation are determined for input data based on error occurrence. Output data is determined based on the input data in the step of determining the ACS calculation and TB calculation.
