<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quantifying sugar chains which are immobilized on a base material without destroying them by quantifying the sugar chains which are not immobilized on the base material, and to provide a base material for immobilizing sugar chains based on the method. <P>SOLUTION: In a base material where sugar chains are immobilized, a method for measuring a sugar chain quantifies immobilized sugar chains by quantifying sugar chains that are not immobilized on the base material. The method for measuring a sugar chain makes it possible to obtain the base material for immobilizing sugar chains having a precise quantity of immobilized sugar chains.
