An electroluminescent element according to the present invention has a hole injection layer, a hole transportation layer, a light emitting layer, and an electron transportation layer between an anode and a cathode. The hole injection layer contains an arylamine compound (a) with 3 or more triphenylamine skeletons, the hole transportation layer contains an arylamine compound (ß) with 2 or more triphenylamine skeletons, and the electron transportation layer includes an electron transporting compound with an anthracene ring skeleton and a pyridoindole ring skeleton. This organic electroluminescent element has high light emission efficiency, low drive voltage, and furthermore exhibits excellent durability and has a long service life.
