<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of properly determining an output resolution. <P>SOLUTION: A multifunction machine analyzes scan data obtained by scanning a document containing a natural image with a specific optical resolution and calculates an edge ratio that is an index value indicating the definition of the document. The multifunction machine determines the output resolution using the edge ratio. If the specific optical resolution and the output resolution do not match, the multifunction machine converts the scan data indicating the specific optical resolution to image data indicating the output resolution.
