<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a failure in an optical fiber that propagates light such as a laser beam toward an object to be inspected in a photoacoustic imaging apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In the photoacoustic imaging apparatus including a probe having a light source 2 for emitting light L to be irradiated to the object to be inspected, and the optical fiber 30B for propagating the light L to the object to be inspected, a return light RL returning to the light source 2 after entering the optical fiber 30B is branched off from a light path of a light heading for the optical fiber 30B from the light source, the branched return light RL is detected by a light detector 20, and the failure in the optical fiber 30B is detected based on a light quantity of the detected return light RL. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
