GATEWAY SELECTION METHOD AND SYSTEM

Disclosed are a gateway (GW) selection method and system, said method comprising: during a handover process, when a target base station learns that a current handover terminal requires association to a local GW node, the target base station sends to a mobility management entity (MME) required necessary information to select a local GW for the terminal; upon reception of said necessary information, the MME selects, according to the necessary information, a local GW for the terminal. The technical solution allows said necessary information to be sent to the MME so that the MME can accurately select a local gateway for the terminal; thus, the MME can accurately select, according to the information sent by the target base station, a gateway for the user terminal.
