The aim is to demonstrate a solution regarding how to improve the quality of haptic feedback for the use of an operator control device in a motor vehicle in comparison with the prior art. An operator control device (1) according to the invention comprises a base support (2), where a touch-sensitive operating element (3) is arranged which, when pushed by an operator, can move at least by regions relative to the base support (2), wherein a function of the operator control device can be triggered when an activation position of the operating element (3) is reached. A haptic device (6, 8, 9, 10) produces a force on the operating element (3) when the activation position of the operating element (3) is reached, in order to produce haptic feedback for the operator. A control unit outputs a control signal (SA) to the haptic device, which control signal has a pulse (16, 18), the duration (?t) of which is less than 50 ms, particularly less than 15 ms.
