<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for starting a fuel cell system under a freezing point that allow a fuel cell stack to start power generation from freezing point temperature and quickly heat the fuel cell stack up to 0°C or more to maintain the power generation. <P>SOLUTION: In a method and a system for starting a fuel cell system under a freezing point, a thermal capacity of a fuel cell stack 1 in a condition filled with coolant in a refrigerant passage thereof is a predetermined value where the temperature of a membrane electrode structure becomes 0°C or more before the electrode structure becomes unable to generate power when the fuel cell stack 1 heats up itself by the power generation started from an activation start temperature predefined to below -10°C. The method and system: provides the fuel cell stack 1 with a reactant gas under a freezing point, the fuel cell stack filled with coolant in the refrigerant passage thereof, to activate the fuel cell stack 1; controls the output of the fuel cell stack 1 so that the fuel cell stack 1 outputs power current larger than the minimum necessary electric current required for maintaining the power generation while the fuel cell stack 1 supplementing output current for heating; and heats up the fuel cell stack 1 from a freezing point which is more than the predefined activation start temperature up to 0°C or more by the self-heating accompanying the power generation of the fuel cell stack 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
