<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a predetermined object or a predetermined pattern from an image with high accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: First, a series of edge pixels indicating an outline of an object or a pattern indicated on the object are detected from an image acquired by an imaging device. Next, a plurality of straight lines are generated based on the detected series of the edge pixels, and a vertex of the outline is detected based on the plurality of straight lines. Furthermore, a relative position and an attitude between the imaging device and the object are calculated based on the detected vertex, and a virtual camera within virtual space is set based on the position and the attitude.
