<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the capability of an existing MMC card and an SD card, and to secure complete lower interchangeability without changing the most characteristics of a memory card. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed is a system and method for booting a host device from a peripheral device via an interface such as an MMC/SD interface including a power supply terminal, a data bus having a data bus terminal, a clock line having a clock terminal, and a command line having a command terminal. Power is supplied to the power supply terminal, and the command terminal of the MMC/SD or similar interface is set to a low signal level during booting.
