An aqueous solution of vanillin and coumarin containing at least 10g./I of vanillin is made by incorporating a buffer salt, e.g. sodium phosphate, sodium citrate, sodium tartrate, to produce a solution of pH 5-7. Examples are concerned with making solutions containing disodium hydrogen phosphate, and 10g. of vanillin and 0.1g. of coumarin per litre, of pH values in the range 5.0-7.0 by the addition of citric acid or of caustic soda. Caramel may be added to the solution. |
