<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle drive device that can control the influence given to the convenience of the driver by divergence between the real travelable distance and the predicted travelable distance. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle drive device includes: an engagement command part that commands engagement of an engagement device CL in a stopped state of an internal combustion engine E; an engagement determination torque control part that makes a first rotating electric machine MG1 output an engagement determination torque TA; and an engagement determination part that executes the engagement determination. The engagement determination torque control part sets the engagement determination torque TA that is less than the torque required to start rotation of an input member drive connected to the internal combustion engine E of a stopped state when the engagement device CL is in a directly engaged state, and that becomes a necessary or more to change the rotation state of the first rotating electric machine MG1 when the engagement device CL is a release state.
