<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil sharpener by which even a child of less power can sharpen a pencil easily while controlling an operation handle not to be enlarged. <P>SOLUTION: A cutting unit 4 includes: a member 11 to be mounted thereon; an operation handle 12 and a rotor 13, both rotatable around a longitudinal axis; a reduction mechanism 14 for decelerating the rotation of the operation handle 12 to transmit it to the rotor 13; and a cutting blade 15 provided on the rotor 13. The reduction mechanism 14 decelerates the rotation of the operation handle 12 and transmits it to the rotor. Accordingly, the rotor 13 provided with the cutting blade 15 can be rotated with large torque, and therefore even a child of less power can sharpen a pencil easily.
