An apparatus is provided in one example and includes an eye gaze module configured to interact with a processor and a memory element such that the apparatus is configured for: receiving first video data from a first camera; receiving second video data from a second camera; determining which of the first and second video data captured by the cameras is to be selected for transmission to a counterparty engaged in a video session; determining a tilt characteristic associated with at least one of the cameras; and modifying image data based on the tilt characteristic in order to orient objects for rendering on a display associated with the video session.
