Provided are: a wet desulfurization apparatus in which it is possible to operate the absorption tower so that solid deposits are not deposited even when the salt concentration in the absorption fluid (waste fluid) stored inside the fluid-storing unit is high; and a method for operating said wet desulfurization apparatus. A method for operating wet desulfurization apparatuses, which perform desulfurization by causing gas-liquid contact between an absorption fluid stored in an absorption tower and a gas to be processed that is introduced into said absorption tower, that comprises: a step of measuring the salt concentration of the absorption fluid stored in the absorption tower; a step of measuring the fluid temperature of the absorption fluid; a step of determining whether or not to heat the absorption fluid based on the salt concentration and the fluid temperature; and a step of heating to a target temperature at which solid deposits will not be deposited at the salt concentration of the absorption fluid when it is determined that the absorption fluid is to be heated in the processing step.
