An internal combustion engine (1) in which the force transmitted to the piston (40) is transferred directly to a crankshaft, the eccentric of which is embedded within the piston body and makes a linear motion within said body such that the eccentric changes it's position to get close to and away from the centre axis. A further feature is a rotary valve arrangement on the centre axis forming part of the combustion chamber and controlling intake and exhaust inlets.
