The delivery device has a sheet conveying system and a sheet brake. The sheet conveying system has a gripper carriage (1) that circulates an orbit (1.1). The sheet brake has a rotating or circulating sheet contact element. A sheet guiding element is placed in a position between the sheet contact element and the orbit. The sheet guiding element is formed as a displaceable sheet guide plate (4). A braking element is formed as an exchangeable suction belt (2.1) against a supporting element. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a sheet brake in delivery of a sheet processing machine.
