Load equalized gear system

A carrier 110 for use in a planetary gear system 100 is described. The carrier 110 has a plurality of openings 117 or slots 242 offset from a midline thereof. The carrier includes alignment mechanisms 125, 240 positioned in each of the plurality of openings or slots to substantially align each planet gear about the midline of the carrier. The carrier 110 may be used in a planetary gear system 100 for use in a wind turbine. One aspect incorporates eccentric rings in the openings 117. Another aspect incorporates inserts in the slots 242. Each of the rings and inserts has openings that, when properly positioned, will substantially bisect the carrier midline.
