The apparatus has a body (10), and a closure element e.g. door (20), flap or cover, for closing the body in a closing position. A metal part (70) is activated by electromagnets (60) in a position of the closure element such that the closure element is moved to the closing position and/or held in the closing position. The electromagnets are arranged at the body, and the metal part is arranged at the closure element. A controlling or regulating unit is connected with the electromagnets, and a detection element i.e. door contact switch, determines whether a user touches the closure element. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cooling and/or freezing device.
