The invention relates to a baling press (1) for the continuous high-pressure compression of material to be pressed to form cuboid bales, in particular agricultural crops or useful substances from the processing recycling industry. The baling press (1) comprises a material pick-up unit (2), a pre-compression chamber (5), a press channel (8) and means for separating the bales from the press strand and for securing the compressed press material. The press channel (8) is composed of vertical side walls (6.2) and an upper and a lower horizontal boundary consisting of means for conveying and compressing the press material, said means being inclined in relation to each other in the conveying direction (10) of the press material. The pre-compression chamber (5), consisting of vertical side walls (6.1) and a front wall (7), is provided between the material pick-up unit (2) and the press channel (8) and is designed to be open toward the press channel (8). The means for conveying and for compressing the press material are designed as a plurality of rotating tine rolls (11), which each form a horizontal boundary of the press channel (8). The tine rolls (11) are arranged transversely to the conveying direction (10) of the press material. The invention further relates to a method for the continuous high-pressure compression of material to be pressed to form cuboid bales by means of the baling press (1) according to the invention.
