The method involves activating (S1) a charging mode of the traction battery of hybrid vehicle by operating an operating device. The traction battery is charged to a preset charge state, in charging mode. The signal representing that the charge state of traction battery is reached, is produced (S2). The switching from charging mode to zero emission mode of hybrid vehicle is performed (S3) after renewed actuation of operating device. An internal combustion engine is turned OFF and the electric drive unit is driven by traction battery, in zero emission mode. An independent claim is included for operating device for hybrid vehicle.
