Invention herewith described refers to the 8-[3-amino-piperidin-1-yl]-xanthines, the production thereof and the use of the same as medicaments i.e. to the substituted xanthines of the general formula (I) whereat R1 to R3 are defined as in the requirements 1 to 16, to their tautomers, stereoisomers, mixtures, their pro-drugs and their salts that have valuable pharmaceutical properties, particularly an inhibitory effect on the activity of dipeptidyl peptidase - IV (DPP-IV) enzyme.
