641,101. Thermionic valves. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. July 31, 1947, No. 20799. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] A base for an electrical discharge device comprises a cylindrical portion 26 joined by a flange 29 to a wider cylindrical portion 28, either or both cylindrical portions being fluted or ribbed inside, some of the ducts so formed acting as passages for air circulation, while the remainder contain basing cement. In Figs. 6, 7 the ribs are grouped in sets'of four, as at 46, alternating with single ribs 39, 40, 41, 42. A curved slot 34 in the base closure 27 serves to admit air, and also to increase the insulation between one of the pins 15 and the others. The flange 29 may contain additional holes 44 to admit air. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the base is attached to a gas-filled thyratron. Fig. 8 shows a simplified base 26a without the upper wider portion, in which the ribs 45 define grooves or ducts, of which alternate ones are filled with cement, the others acting as passages for cooling air entering through a central aperture 34a. |
