<p>The method involves utilizing rotation speed, suction tube pressure (Ps), suction tube temperature, exhaust gas mass flow, external exhaust gas recirculation of an internal combustion engine, output quantity of a model for internal residual gas determination, a valve timing, a valve stroke and a variable for a course of a mode switching of the engine as model inputs. The variable is selected from running time, cycle number and specification of a switching strategy. The switching is carried-out from an initial mode into an operating mode e.g. spark-ignition mode or a self-igniting mode. The mode is selected from a homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) mode, a controlled auto ignition (CAI) mode, an active thermal atmosphere combustion (ATAC) mode and a Toyota soken (TS) mode. The model is selected from an empirical model and a physically based model. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a set of instructions for performing a method for determining cylinder filling of an internal combustion engine (2) a data carrier comprising a set of instructions for performing a method for determining cylinder filling of an internal combustion engine (3) a control device for operating an internal combustion engine.</p> |
