The device (2) has a cover element (6) completely releasing a transparent and/or plate-like body (4) of a motor car in an operating position, and completely covering the body in another operating position. The cover element is partially arranged or fixed in a retainer (10) in the former operating position, and detachably fixable or fixed on a component (12) of the motor car by a holder unit (16) in the latter operating position. The component is designed as a stationary component e.g. roof railing, hook or eyelet, and/or as a movable component such as a windscreen wiper (14). The holder unit includes a holding element (20) formed by a hook, an eyelet or Velcro(RTM: hook and loop fastener). An independent claim is also included for a method for covering a transparent and plate-like body of a motor car.
