A video stream composed by binary video components is altered by efficiently removing some information of less importance from the stream in order to reduce the bandwidth required for transmission with a low impact on visual quality. Data in memory is transposed (702), and each bit of a transposed video component is stored in a distinct addressable entry of the memory block. The transposition allows the puncturing (deletion, removal, overwriting) of the least significant bits (LSB) of a set of data by simple shift operation (704). Accordingly, the timing required for performing video data alteration, and in particular video components information dropping, is optimized. The transposition may comprise gathering together bits of the same weight, and transposition from read rows to stored columns. Writing into memory may be combined with overwriting the LSB, e.g. using a free space in the memory.
|
