The method involves activating a control unit of a cooking apparatus i.e. oven (1), in a time interval during running a cooking program, and operating heating units (12, 14) through the control unit. The control unit is deactivated, and clocked operation of the heating units is carried out through a time switch in another time interval. Upper temperature threshold value is kept low for switching off the heating units in the latter time interval. Lower temperature threshold value is kept low for switching on the heating units in the latter time interval. An independent claim is also included for a control and regulating device for controlling and regulating a cooking apparatus.
