A press forming die includes a protection film for preventing seizure during press forming which is formed on at least a forming surface that contacts a formed body. The protection film is formed by PVD process and, when the number of divisions of a plurality of individual sections into which an arbitrary selected section picked out of a surface of the protection film is divided is N, and the slope of the surface at an n-th division point from an end of the selected section is (dZn/dXn), has a root mean square R?q of 0.032 or less, where R?q is calculated by expression (1). Thus, the anti-seizure property of the press forming die having the protection film formed by PVD process can be improved.
