PURPOSE: A system and method for detecting an underwater object are provided to prevent collision between ships by successively detecting obstacles above or below sea level in front of a ship. CONSTITUTION: An underwater object detecting system(100) includes a first detecting unit(110), a second detecting unit(120), a display unit(130), and a control unit(140). The first detecting unit detects an underwater object. The second detecting unit grasps information of the underwater object. The display unit displays the underwater object. If the first detecting unit detects the underwater object, the control unit operates the second detecting unit and transmits the information of the underwater object grasped by the second detecting unit to the display unit.
