Provided are a steel sheet for cans which attains high buckling strength and is excellent in terms of formability and of surface properties after forming and a process for producing the steel sheet. The steel sheet contains 0.0005-0.0035% C, up to 0.05% Si, 0.1-0.6% Mn, up to 0.02% P, less than 0.02% S, 0.01-0.10%, excluding 0.10%, Al, up to 0.0030% N, and at least 0.0010% B, wherein B/N=3.0 (B/N = (B (mass%)/10.81)/(N (mass%)/14.01)), with the remainder comprising Fe and incidental impurities. The steel sheet has a texture in which the sheet plane that is located at a depth corresponding to 1/4 the sheet thickness has an average integrated intensity (f) in the (111)[1-10] to (111)[-1-12] orientations of 7.0 or higher. The steel sheet satisfies EAVE=215 GPa, E0=210 GPa, E45=210 GPa, E90=210 GPa, and -0.4=?r=0.4 and has an average ferrite grain diameter in the rolling-direction cross-section of 6.0-10.0 µm. |
