The present invention relates to a system which allows the driver of a vehicle (12) to perceive that a sound signal (5) relevant to driving is being emitted in the vicinity of said vehicle, such as the sound emitted by a claxon (6), a right of way siren, a sound warning that another vehicle is reversing or a warning exclaimed by a pedestrian, and is possibly being received in an attenuated form inside the vehicle (11). By means of the use of this system, the driver in turn receives another visual, sound or vibratory signal or a combination thereof (30). This new warning signal will be instantaneously transmitted following the reception of the external sound signal in a manner which will not create a distraction when driving.
