The method involves heating two cartridges (12-1, 12-2), where the cartridges are connected to an injector by pipes (14). Nitrogen oxide reducing agent supplied to the pipes by one of the cartridges is detected. Change of the cartridge is validated by detecting increase in pressure in the pipes after heating of the cartridge, where the pressure in the pipes corresponds to the pressure of the cartridge having high pressure. The pressure of the cartridge is controlled by a control unit of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system (10) after validating the change of the cartridge. An independent claim is also included for an exhaust line.
