A pack (1) for smoking articles such as cigarettes comprises front and rear panels (2, 3) connected by opposite side panels (4, 5), a bottom panel (6) and a lid (7). The pack is fabricated from sheet board stock material. At least one of the panels includes a plurality of transverse bands (18) comprising corrugations on the exterior surface thereof formed by compression of the board stock material in the thickness of the sheet material. The transverse bands are greater in thickness than a region (19) between the bands.
