A novel technique for improving the L-cysteine production capability of a bacterium is developed, and a process for producing L-cysteine, an L-cysteine-related substance or a mixture thereof is provided. L-Cysteine, an L-cysteine-related substance or a mixture thereof can be produced by culturing a bacterium belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae in a culture medium and collecting L-Cysteine, the L-cysteine-related substance or the mixture thereof from the culture medium, wherein the bacterium is capable of producing L-cysteine and is so modified as to express a gene selected from the group consisting of ygaZH gene and ychE gene at an increased level compared with that expressed by an unmodified strain thereof. |
