<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support apparatus for a vehicle capable of performing suitable cruise control against an extended range of objects to cover a traffic signal present on a road on which a subject vehicle is traveling in addition to a preceding vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: When a stop signal is recognized by a stereo image recognition device 4, a cruise control unit 5 calculates a traffic signal target acceleration asig for making an own vehicle 1 stop at a stop position Pstp of the stop signal. When a follow-up cruise target acceleration acar is not calculated and the traffic signal target acceleration asig is calculated, the cruise control unit substitutes the traffic signal target acceleration asig for the follow-up cruise target acceleration acar.
