<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ESD protection device capable of suppressing degradation of a discharge part in the ESD protection device when a surge current is allowed to repeatedly flow within a short time. <P>SOLUTION: An ESD protection device 201 includes: an element body 101 on which insulating ceramic layers 17 are laminated and of which the approximate shape is a rectangular parallelepiped; a pair of discharge electrodes 16 formed in the element body 101 and having opposite parts opposed to each other; and an outer electrode 11 formed on the surface of the element body 101 and continued to the discharge electrodes 16. The element body 101 includes a cavity 18 in its center part and the opposite parts of the discharge electrodes 16 are exposed to the cavity 18. The element body 101 has an hourglass shape in which the thickness of the respective insulating ceramic layers 17 is gradually thinned from the vicinities of both end parts of the element body 101 to the center part on both of a longitudinal section of a longitudinal direction passing the center and a longitudinal section of a lateral direction passing the center. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
