<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To release a recording medium adhering to a print head more securely. <P>SOLUTION: A printer includes: the print head 5 that prints on the recording medium 2; a platen roller 4 that is disposed facing the print head 5 and conveys the recording medium 2; a storage unit that stores the recording medium 2; a cover 22 that opens and closes the storage unit; a displacement mechanism that displaces the cover 22 from a closed position to an opened position; and a control unit that drives and controls the displacement mechanism. When the cover 22 is in the closed position, the print head 5 and the platen roller 4 are disposed facing each other to be contacted via the recording medium. When the cover 22 in the opened position, the print head is separated from the platen roller 4.
