636,548. Blow-pipe burners. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. March 17, 1947, No. 7384. Convention date, April 10, 1946. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Apparatus for flame-de-surfacing metal bodies comprises a de-surfacing head having gas passage: terminating in nozzles for discharging a sheet-like gaseous stream across a metal body, in which a manifold block adapted to be secured on the head has passages which register with corresponding passages in the head. The apparatus comprises top, side and bottom nozzle assemblies disposed rectangularly to enclose a metal body, to be treated, the top block and one of the side blocks being adjustable by hanc wheel and lead screw. Parallel bores 18 and 19 for acetylene and de-surfacing oxygen respectively are formed in the manifold 16, which is provided at one end with a detachable block 27 carrying supply; connections 20 and 28, from bores 18 and 19 lead ducts 26 and 32 which register with ducts 14 and 15 leading to the individual nozzles. The number of nozzles in action is determined by pistons 25 and 31 actuated by racks on piston rods 23 and 29 and pinions 33 and 34 on shaft 35. Jackets 36 and 38 connected by passages 39 are provided for cooling medium supplied through inlet 37. Valve means may be provided to either one or both manifolds for selectively supplying pre-heating gas, oxygen or both to the nozzle passages. A removable nozzle protecting shoe 12 having a wear resisting portion 44 is provided to the underside of the nozzle block 10. |
