<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a depositing position error of a recording element in a recording head even when using a reader having a lower resolution than a recording resolution. <P>SOLUTION: A linear test pattern is recorded by operating recording elements, spaced apart by the number of detection pitches PP, among recording elements having a recording pitch WP. The linear test pattern is read to obtain read image signals. When a read pixel pitch is set as WS and the number of analysis pitches as PS, it is set such that T=WP×PP÷¾WS×PS-WP×PP¾>3. The read image signals are decomposed into a plurality of sequences by a remainder obtained by dividing the read pixel number by the number of analysis pitches PS in order to calculate a regular signal predicted in each sequence. A gradation value difference equivalent to each depositing position error distance is calculated on the basis of the predicted signal in order to determine each threshold corresponding to each depositing position error distance. A variation signal obtained by subtracting the predicted signal from the original signal is calculated in each sequence in order to measure a depositing position error on the basis of the variation signal and each threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
