<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of confining a liquid crystal amount to an appropriate area and preventing occurrence of air bubbles and display spots. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element 10 comprises: a pair of substrates 11 and 12 at least one of which has flexibility; and a liquid crystal layer 13 that is encapsulated between the pair of substrates 11 and 12. An area where either one of the pair of substrates 11 and 12 contacts the liquid crystal layer 13 is divided into a display area 6 and a non-display area 5. The display area 6 includes multiple spacers 15 that are arranged between the pair of substrates 11 and 12, and hold spaces between the pair of substrates 11 and 12.
