<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove sediment without complicating a device configuration. <P>SOLUTION: In a glass melting furnace 1 for processing high-level radioactive liquid waste 6 together with glass raw material 8 into molten glass 10 in a melting furnace body 3, when sediment 15 containing a platinum group element is accumulated on a furnace bottom, zinc 16 is supplied to the furnace bottom through a tube 17 while the glass melting furnace 1 continuously operates. The viscosity of the molten glass 10 is dropped by making the molten glass 10 around the sediment 15 acquire the zinc 16 that melts at normal operating temperature of the glass melting furnace 1, and suspended matter of the platinum group element constituting the sediment 15 is dispersed into the molten glass 10 processed to low viscosity. After that, by discharging the molten glass 10 through a flow-down nozzle 12, the suspended matter of the platinum group element forming the sediment 15 is discharged together. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
