PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain more natural images without discomfort.

SOLUTION: A depth control signal generation unit generates a depth control signal for controlling emphasis of the feel based on the depth position of a subject in an input image. A face skin region control signal generation unit generates a face skin region control signal for controlling emphasis of the feel according to the likelihood of each region of the input image being face skin. A person region control signal generation unit generates a person region control signal for controlling emphasis of the feel according to the likelihood of each region of the input image being a person region. A control signal synthesis unit synthesizes the depth control signal, the face skin region control signal, and the person region control signal to generate a control signal. An image processing unit adjusts the feel of the input image based on the control signal. This invention can be applied to an image processing apparatus.
